LA rules for gates on private streets
In the City of Los Angeles, security gates are allowed only on private streets, access roads and fire lanes, not on public streets (L.A.M.C. 57.503.4.2). Power-operated gates need an LAFD-approved override, and a Knox two-position key switch is accepted. On power failure the gate must open automatically or be pushable. Source: LAFD Fire Prevention.
